Tamera's Tips for Decorating With Candles
Anyone who knows me, knows that I love candles. They help create a nice, calming effect, especially for pregnant women and new moms. When I was pregnant with my son, having candles around kept me relaxed because, as we all know, I didn't deliver my boy until several days past my due date. I definitely got anxious at times!
When shopping for a candle, make sure that it is "natural" (soy- or vegetable-based) so that you don't breathe in any chemicals and harm you or your baby. Lavender is the most popular soothing fragrance, but I'm partial to vanilla. Vanilla is a "homey" scent, and when I'm reminded of home, I instantly feel at ease.
For expectant women, first-time moms or just anyone who has tendency to get very stressed out, another great use of candles is to place them in your bathroom. Having aromatherapy candles by your tub while taking a warm bath is an excellent way to unwind.
Fire safety is, of course, very important. Consider using a candle warmer, which melts scented wax sans open flame. In fact, there are lots of great flameless candle options available. I actually took battery-operated candles with me to the delivery room because I wanted to be as relaxed as possible. They set a really nice, elegant ambiance and helped calm my nerves.
