Q Puts Her Family First
The best part and also the most stressful part of AJ's birthday party was pulling it off in a small matter of time and at the Japonais location he wanted. AJ wanted to impress the empress - the editor of Ebony - and we did it!
The friendship between AJ and I is undescriable and because we are family it takes on a different role. We have each others' back, and both of us are success-driven in whatever we do. AJ has also been a role model for me, so there is a part of me that doesn't want to disappoint him.
At first, it was difficult to balance the demands of the salon and my family. When I realized what I needed to do was prioritize, it became easier. What I want is to make sure that my family life is secure and successful. It's possible to thrive in your career and with your family. This is my reality, and I'm striving to be the best I can be with it.
Malik's main focus is our children, and sometimes he likes to pull my coattail to make sure we are on the same path. Does he always agree about my work time? No. But that's so I don't forget what's important: our children.
I was surprised and elated when he surprised me at the birthday party because it proved we're both work in progress. And sometimes that's what you need.
