Working Mom Tia Tries to Make Sense of It All
When I first came back from Atlanta, I was actually shocked when my sister told me she bought a home in Napa. All this time, she was telling me she wanted to live in Los Angeles. I knew she was going to have a place in Napa, but I know how much my sister loves L.A. When I think about buying a home, I think that is where I am going to be spending most of my time, especially if it is a big, beautiful home, like the one Tamera bought in Napa.
I thought, Whoa! What is going on?! Is this going to take us away from out business endeavors? We are getting very serious about building our brand. Tamera was also starting to get more serious about acting because she had put it on hold for a while. I just couldn't understand what her point was in buying a home in Napa versus buying a home in L.A. Plus, I knew it would take me away from her.
But she convinced me that it's more of her and Adam's getaway home. She is still going to be in L.A. as much as before. I just didn't know where it was coming from. I didn't know if it was Adam's influence because his family is down there and he is down there. I know she loves Napa, too. I have been to Napa for her wedding, but I have not gone there just to chill and meet all of her friends. I know my sister is a smart girl and, at the end of the day, she makes decisions that make her happy. If having a home in Napa makes her happy, then that is all that really matters.
As far as booking Mistle-Tones, which was shot in Utah, that was the first movie I've ever been offered to do without my sister. I didn't have to audition for it. So, it was very important for me to do the movie because I think my sister and I should have our own individual careers on top of our career together. Sometimes, it gets a little touchy when I am doing a movie that Tamera could have potentially been cast in as well. We just have to communicate and talk about that. We are starting to learn that we are different people, and we are different people in this business. It doesn't mean that Tamera will never work and it doesn't mean that I will always be working. There are times that Tamera's working and I'm not; there are times that I'm working and Tamera's not. We have to learn that we are different actors and what's hers, she will get, and what's mine, I will get. It doesn't mean that the other twin isn't as good. We have to be happy for each other. Our saying is, "As long as one of the Mowrys get it, then that's a blessing." There are so many other women who could land a given job. So, we're happy that it's in the family.
Speaking of family, I loved joining the Mommy and Me group. When I sat down with other women who were around the same age as me, with their children, I thought, Wow! I am a mom and it is amazing! It also helped me not stress so much when it comes to Cree. When you are a mom, you want to make sure you're doing everything perfect for your child. You want to make sure you're doing things right. I was in a class with kids who were the same age as Cree, and some weren't holding their bottles yet—and it's OK! Or, all of us moms are exhausted and it's like, Yes!
