The '20s, But Not The Downton Abbey Kind
There's no getting around Downton Abbey's influence on fashion. The third and current season of the wildly popular series takes place in the 1920s, which has sent designers reaching for their feathers and silks. But flapper dresses and ropes of pearls are not what Tia Cibani has in mind for her own '20s-influenced collection.
Cibani, the former designer of Ports 1961, homed in on Man Ray, the American-born photographer and artist who participated in an influential bunch of Paris expats. The black-and-white and metallics look of his prints gave Cibani an abstract sort of inspiration that prevented her Fall 2013 looks from falling into a costume or retro trap.
