Style Test Drive: Tinted Lip Balms
Thanks to the lovely winter weather transitioning into a wacky spring, our lips have taken a beating. That's why we set out on a quest to find the perfect lip balm to make our puckers kissable once again. After tons of testing, we found four that got our lips buzzing. Check out myStyle's picks!
MIRACLE PRODUCT: Burt's Bee's Tinted Lip Balm ($7)
THEY SAY: It delivers the good old one-two punch by conditioning lips with shea butter and botanical waves while adding a hint of color.
Pros: If you suffer from dry lips like I do, you know that it's all about conditioning your pucker; color is often not even a part of the equation. That's why I'm obsessed with Burt's Bees Rose Tinted Lip Balm. It's just like a ChapStick (it literally looks like one!), but it has the added bonus of infusing your pout with a hint of natural, beautiful color. One whiff of the stuff and you know that what you're swiping across your lips contains good-for-you ingredients! The shea butter and botanical waxes are extremely moisturizing!
Cons: It costs $7, which is $5 more than my usual ChapStick. But it's so worth it! —Danielle
Bottom Line: Burt's Bees Rose Tinted Lip Balm is the perfect "lipstick" for the low maintenance girl-on-the-go!
MIRACLE PRODUCT: Lush It Started with a Kiss ($8.95)
THEY SAY: The lip balm gives your pout in nice shade of ruby red using natural ingredient, including fresh apple infusion, warming cinnamon and a hint of white chocolate.
Pros: I love that it gives just a hint of color. It's an easy way to get matte lips without looking like you're trying to hard or having to struggle with that perfect color. Lush lives up to it's "Lip Tint" name. Plus, the red hue (my have) was called "It Started With a Kiss," which is the definition of adorable.
Cons: The scent is strong and the texture reminded me of a scratch and stiff sticker. It also took a few layers for my lips to feel moisturized, possibly because of the old school lip balm pot it came in. —Emily
Bottom Line: This is best if you want a hint of color, but for an extra dose of moisture, an added layer of chapstick or lipgloss would do wonders.
MIRACLE PRODUCT: Kiehl's Lip Balm SPF 15 in Hue 30G ($9.50)
THEY SAY: Helps nourish chapped or cracked lips, and protects them from drying up again. An extra perk: The SPF15 sunscreen gives UVA and UVB protection.
Pros: I've always had issues with my lips drying out easily, especially during the colder seasons. After using this I'm definitely never going back to ChapStick again. I usually have to re-apply lip balm at million times a day, but with Kiehl's I just did it once in the morning and then put on a little more whenever I ate or drank something. It helped to soften my lips a lot and put a stop to the troublesome peeling I usually experience.
Cons: I wish the packaging was made so that it rolled on easily. I have to squeeze it onto my finger tip and then spread it. That can be annoying when I'm in a rush or on-the-go.—Anita
Bottom Line: I've thrown out my ChapStick in disgust and plan to definitely continue using Kiehl's. The brand has never disappointed me when it comes to skincare, and I'm glad they have an awesome lip balm as well.
MIRACLE PRODUCT: Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter ($7.49)
THEY SAY: The lip butter, made from mango, shea and coconut butter, promises to soften and hydrate your lips, while giving a touch of color to your pout. Plus, it come sin over 20 shades!
Pros: I love lipsticks, but I avoid wearing them everyday because they tend to dry out my lips. So, I've tried to find a good lip balm that has a good tint to it, and I think I have finally found it! Revlon's Strawberry Shortcake lip butter was pigmented in just the right way. It wasn't too opaque, but not too sheer either. I can definitely see myself using this every single day, since it hydrates and give my lips come color! I'm already planning on purchasing more colors, so I can add them to my everyday routine!
Cons: Although the lip butter did hydrate my lips, if you have severely chapped lips this isn't for you. I would recommend applying a regular ChapStick on before, then using Revlon's to give you that tint on color.—Daisy
Bottom Line: This is a lipstick-lovers dream come true! It'll give your pucker a nice bright color while softening it, too!
