Sharie: "I Eat, Sleep and Breathe Fashion"
Sharie Manon caught the world's attention with her killer instinct for hair and hot mama ways on Glam Fairy. What is your earliest memory of fashion?
My grandfather used to send me on these wonderful shopping sprees with my grandmother when I was younger—there weren't any limits! I had an hour in each store to get everything I wanted. When I got home, I'd have to give my grandfather a fashion show, as he sat in his Big Daddy recliner chair smoking a cigar and drinking bourbon. I put all the outfits together and laid them out on the bed. I'd come down the stairs and model them. I was probably in third grade!
What do you look for when shopping for a dress?
I like a short, structured dress, and I work off of that with jewelry, shoes and layering. I'll add a belt to accent my waist.
What style jackets are you attracted to?
Because I live in NYC, jackets are really important to me. I want a jacket that has a great fit and one that is NOT black—I'll add a bright scarf for even more color. I try to buy all my designer jackets at sample sales in the spring.
Which kinds of handbags tend to catch your eye?
I love a satchel with bright accents or interesting prints. I've never gotten into the over-the-shoulder look.
What's your criteria when it comes to shoes?
High and sexy! I'm really into all of the fun wedges that making running errands a breeze and painless.
What do you have in your eyewear collection?
I think the other mommies at school think that I am a vampire! I always have my shades on. Big and statement is the only way to go. I rock Channel, Gucci and I just snagged a lovely mauve cat-eyed pair from Vince Camuto.
What are your favorite kinds of jewelry pieces?
My necklaces have to be statement. I love cuffs. Because big rings tend to get caught in hair while I'm working, I stay away from that. I'm all over the board with earrings. I have very long shoulder dusters all the way to pearl studs.
How do you like to do your nails?
I am totally obsessed with getting my nails done. I put gel over mine for added protection, and I wear them long and oval. I am crazy bananas for bright colors, crackle polishes, designs on ring fingers and mismatched motifs.
If your house was on fire and could only take one thing from your closet, what would it be?
My white goat fur vest. I live in it!
How does style play into every facet of your life?
I'm into texture. I have to touch everything! When I'm dressing myself and my children, I look for different textures. I do it with my hairdressing, too. When I cook, I incorporate colors. If I'm doing a stir fry, I'll have something red in there—it's not just for flavor. I think I integrate fashion into everything I do because the streets of New York is my runway. You also have to be very creative because it's so expensive to live here. I'll put together an outfit by pulling something vintage, something from Topshop and something from this season. I eat, sleep and breathe fashion.
How do you like to decorate your home?
My home is a mix of native art and ethnic accents.
What's your favorite apparatus to cook with?
I have an indoor electric grill that heats up really evenly. You can do fish, steaks and anything on it. It has this easy pan the you can just pull out. Anything that you can do on an outdoor grill, I can do on that grill.
Do you like to cook for and entertain guests?
Yes! I love being a hostess. My fun ethnic food parties are always a hit. Cooking is certainly a passion of mine, and barbecue at my famiy's ranch has been elevated to an art form. I really stay away from processed foods—for me and my kids. If you tried to take my kids to a fast food restaurant, they would definitely say "No, thank you."
What are you obsessed with at the moment?
Bright lip color! My go-to is the fuchsia Ultra Vinyl lip pencil from Sephora. I get stopped on the street for this color.
How do you like to relax and unwind?
I like a massage, or I can knit. I can make a hat for my girls in a little over an hour. I know, so nerdy!
