Q Lacey Takes It "One Day at a Time" With Motherhood
The premiere of Chicagolicious is right around the corner, and we chatted with the sales manager of AJ's Salon, Q Lacey, to see what's in her closet and how she balances a career with motherhood!
Tell me about the show. Chicagolicious will be so different and unique off the bat because of its setting. I've always been in love with this city and feel this show will showcase the best things about it. The fun, the glamour, everything chic. The characters also exemplify the type of personalities you'll find in Chicago. I'm AJ's cousin, but I'm also the marketing director and a negotiator of what happens in the business side.
What's your personal style? I would say it's mainly urban chic. I've never been a fan of power suits. Just because you're into business, doesn't mean you have to dress stuffy. Mixing designers and different prints is also a way I like to make my ensembles fresh and funky.
Who are your favorite designers? I love any designer that infuses a lot of color into their work. So Isaac Mizrahi and Betsey Johnson are ones I follow since they're really fun and out there. But I can also appreciate the conservative Burberry every now and then. When you throw those two opposites together, they mix well.
How would you describe yourself? I'm assertive, loyal, but also very direct. I don't sugarcoat things; I'm not a bakery.
What is the most rewarding thing about working at the salon? Watching our goals transpire into a reality and watching my cousin flourish into where he wants to be.
What is your favorite hair care tip? If you're a woman on the go like I am, I take 10 minutes to wrap my hair up at night so when I wake up, it's ready. You save time by doing little things like that before you go to bed.
What's your beauty routine? I get up early so I turn my shower with the steam on and then I do a sugar scrub treatment. I like light makeup that gives me a soft glow and use just a little bit of powder. Then I apply some of that eyeliner and gloss, and I'm good to go! I feel if you focus on maintenance, you will always look good without too much effort. It's the little beauty basics that get away from you if you work and have kids.
How do you balance being a professional and being a mom? I take it day by day. I try not to get too caught up in everything and keep my stress levels low. I've learned to micromanage my time and keep up a tight schedule. As long as my schedule is in place, everything is good. My cell phone has my Outlook on it so being able to constantly check my email keeps me sane. I also quickly learned the value of keeping lists!
Be sure to catch Q in the premiere of Chicagolicious Monday, June 11, at 9/8c, only on Style!
