myStyle Q&A: Tia Mowry-Hardrict
The hot mama to Cree and star of Tia & Tamera, which returns to Style Monday, June 11, at 8/7c, gave us an update on what she's lovin' these days in terms of fashion!
EVOLVING STYLE: My style has changed now that I have become a mom. Cree is extremely active! When you're a mom, you don't normally have time to get yourself ready, so you have to find go-to pieces that are casual-chic and classy. That's why I think I love the Bohemian look, which is comfortable and chic at the same time. I'm in tights a lot because they're comfortable. I also really love color.
NEVER TUCKERED OUT!: Tucker makes my favorite dresses because they can go from day to night. As a working mom, I have meetings in the day and events I have to go to at night. With their dresses, I can put on a nice sandal from Aldo or Brian Atwood in the daytime. Then, I can throw on some tights, a cute cardigan and bomb shoes and its just become an evening took. Their patterns are so beautiful. I love prints! Other great go-to designers for busy mothers are DvF and Rachel Roy.
FAVORITE COLOR: Turquoise! It's great on my skin tone.
FASHIONABLE FATIGUE: My mom and dad were in the military. I'd grab my mom's Doc Martens out of her closet and wear them with tights. It was an edgy, cute look! They also wore military belts with compartments that I love!
MORE TIPS FOR NEW MOMS: Don't be afraid to wear Spanx! I was shocked that my belly didn't go down after having a baby as quickly as women portray in Hollywood. I thought that would automatically happen and it didn't, so invest in Spanx. Full dresses with an empire waist are flattering for your belly. It's all about being comfortable.
ACCESSORY PHILOSOPHY: Simple and classic. I love hoop earrings; I say the bigger, the better! Sometimes, I can't wear hoops with Cree because he pulls them. I am going to invest in really cute studs for everyday. I also don't wear big necklaces anymore. My jewelry has become simple. That doesn't mean you can't look cute with simple jewelry. Try cute hearts or butterfly studs.
SHOE TALK: I am a shoe fanatic! My favorite shoes right now are brown leather stilettos with a very high heel that go with everything. You can dress them up and dress them down; they go with jeans and skirts. My sister Tamera is so funny. When we're filming Tia and Tamara, she always jokes about me wearing heels all the time. I was like, "Honey, I was pregnant for 10 months and I couldn't wear heels for the past four months! I never realized how much I appreciate heels until I got pregnant.
