What does your job as Senior Vice President of Marketing for JustFab entail?
I develop and drive JustFab's marketing strategy while overseeing five departments: Product, Marketing, CRM, Creative and the Video Studio. I am responsible for all print, online and TV advertising campaigns, photo and video shoot development, the promotional and merchandising activities and our e-mail strategy. I touch and review everything before it reaches the consumer, making sure that we create assets that are relevant and impactful while protecting the integrity of the brand.
What has it been like to go from being the first team member to seeing where JustFab is today?
Since I was employee number one, I've been able to be a part of every huge milestone that JustFab has reached. It's been such an amazing experience. I'm incredibly proud of what we have built and excited about the future.
What made you want to get into fashion?
I've always found the fashion world fascinating but completely intimidating. What drew me to JustFab is that it allowed me to make fashion accessible to all women. The key to our success is that we make fashion affordable and attainable. We're the new "in crowd."
What trends are you most looking forward to for 2013?
For this spring, it's peekaboo pieces. I enjoy trends that you can easily incorporate into your existing closet. What I love about this trend is that there's a peekaboo option for every body type, and you can be as risqué or modest as you want. I'll be on the lookout for dresses with sexy yet strategically placed cutouts that are perfect for date night. I'll also be spicing up my office wear by incorporating sheer fabrics.
What's the best part about working at JustFab?
The team! I get to work with a group of people who are passionate, creative and experts in their respective fields. I learn something new every day. There's nothing like working with a group of people who truly love what they're doing. When you step into our offices, you feel the energy. It keeps me motivated.
Who do you get along with best at work?
Kim and Petra are my confidants and work BFFs. They are smart, tough cookies, so they're a great sounding board. I know I can count on them when I'm having a tough day and need to vent. They're also a lot of fun, so we share a lot of inside jokes and laughter-filled lunches. It's pretty great to genuinely like the people you work with.
What are some of your passions in life?
My mom is a cancer survivor, so I like to support cancer research organizations. A couple of years ago, I trained for a marathon with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team and Training program. My first day out, I lasted five minutes. I still don't know how I managed to run a marathon, but it was an incredibly rewarding experience. I was able to raise money for a great cause and challenge myself in a way I had never had before.
I was also lucky to have some incredible people step in and take on the role of mentor to me throughout high school, college and early in my career. I try to pay it forward by being a mentor whenever the opportunity presents itself. I'm particularly passionate about mentoring inner city high school students. I grew up in a tough area, so I know first-hand how difficult it can be to stay focused. At times, it can feel like opportunities are limited. I want to let them know that they do have options and can accomplish all their goals—all they have to do is keep dreaming big.
How would you describe your style?
Effortlessly glam and sexy. I'm drawn to bright colors, curve-hugging dresses and sky-high stilettos, but I'm a girl-on-the go, so it needs to be effortless.
Who are your fashion icons?
Jennifer Aniston and Lauren Conrad.
Who are your favorite fashion designers?
My favorite designers are Michael Kors, Max Azria and Diane von Furstenberg. I find their silhouettes incredibly flattering. For me, it's all about the fit. My Hervé Léger bandage dresses are the best investments I've ever made. They fit like a glove and make me feel amazing.
What is the best styling tip you've learned at JustFab?
Nude pumps are a great way to create the illusion of long legs, and I add a shoe cushion to all of my heels. They're lifesavers!
What is your signature scent?
Currently, I'm obsessed with Flora by Gucci, but my staple is Chance by Chanel.
What was your most memorable fashion splurge?
My Louis Vuitton clutch. I was in my early twenties and could barely afford rent, but I saved and saved and saved until finally it was mine. The things we do for fashion!
What are some of your favorite beauty products?
Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener has been my favorite find. It brightens up the eye area and makes you look fresh and rested.
