How did you get started at JustFab?
I was in hot pursuit of a work/life balance, so my husband Derek and I decided that I would "retire" from my life as an executive assistant because it was a 24/7/365 career I'd been doing for about 12 years. I started looking for something that I would find fulfillment in and truly love. After a business meeting with someone at Dermstore, another Intelligent Beauty company, Derek wandered into the JustFab offices. He suggested that I check out the website, and I knew right away that I wanted to be there. I stalked the company website for months. One magical day, the position of receptionist popped up. I asked Derek to call his business acquaintance, but the position was no longer available. So, I put my best suit on, printed my resumé on the fanciest paper I could find, "snuck" into the building, found the suite and handed my resumé to the woman at the front desk. She asked if I wanted her job and I said yes!
What is the best and worst parts about working for JustFab?
The best part of the job is seeing your work make people happy. I love seeing bloggers enjoying our shoes and bags and writing positive reviews about our company, and I am so proud when magazine editors take our suggestions and feature our products in their articles. All of the little daily successes make me feel very fulfilled and useful. The most difficult part is that there isn't enough time in the day. As the company gets larger and we have more tasks associated with our positions, I'm learning how to better manage my time. Time management has always been challenging for me because I'm obsessive. I have a hard time turning over final projects and products because I like to tweak, fiddle and brainstorm to try and make things better.
Who do you get along best with at work?
I get along with Sarah because she and I have the same work ethic and sense of humor. Neither of us would think twice about missing lunch or staying late if the other needed help. She can always make me laugh, even when I'm stressed. You need to be able to have a little comic relief when things are intense and have someone you can trust. It is rare to find someone you can truly count on at work. When you do, it should really be cherished.
What made you want to get into fashion?
When I was in high school, my mom took me with her on a business trip to Washington, D.C. We went to the Smithsonian and saw all kinds of iconic, eclectic things, from the Hope Diamond to Dorothy's ruby red slippers. I was extremely unimpressed by the Hope Diamond but I've been obsessed with ruby red slippers ever since. I'm also obsessed with glass slippers.
What are some of your passions in life?
I am passionate about animal welfare and I do my best to contribute to that cause. I love being outside at the beach, running, hiking, biking and paddle boarding. I also like to listen to audiobooks and watch movies, and I love shopping.
What do the people you're closest to know you for?
Loyalty, kindness (I hope!) and a sort of weird sense of humor.
What has been your most memorable splurge?
Are you kidding? I'm not telling! My husband might read this. Ask me in private.
