Meagan Leaves Behind the Froufrou
Meagan McBrayer is a licensed real estate agent, but her true passion lies with fashion. She's determined to open Atlanta's first mobile boutique with the help of her mom, Marcia Marchman. Make sure you watch Big Rich Atlanta, which premieres Wednesday, January 23, at 8/7c on Style, to see how that goes. For now, read up on the blond beauty's style below!
How did your mom dress you when you were a kid?
My preschool teacher used to call me Froufrou because my mom always had me decked out, top to bottom, in some crazy, girlie outfit. She'll probably do the same if I ever give birth to a girl.
How has she influenced your style since then?
She's always been very well-dressed and she appreciates designers. We would always go shopping together when I was little, so she would help me pick out things, and I would show her what I like. She likes flowers and ruffles more than I do. She 's like me in that we dress pretty classic, but we also like to be modern.
Who do you consider to be your biggest style icon?
I love Victoria Beckham. I just think she is classic but sexy and she has an edge. She knows how to wear clothes very well. Her clothes are always clean and simple yet very detailed.
How has your style evolved over the years?
I use fashion as an outlet for whatever I'm feeling on a given day. I think people change their fashion style all the time. I definitely don't dress like I dressed in college even. I think your style changes as you change as a person, but my mom has always let me wear whatever I want as I got older. She just always tells me to make sure that my clothes are ironed and clean.
Do you borrow clothes from your mom's closet?
I borrow her stuff all the time. We borrow each other's dresses and tops. She's given me a ton of jewelry over the years. She's also given me sunglasses—I'm obsessed with sunglasses! I have about 20 pairs. I love all styles, but I really do love aviators.
What kind of jewelry do you like to wear?
I wear studs usually with a cool, long necklace and bracelets. I love dainty jewelry, but if I wear dainty jewelry, then I wear a couple of bracelets. I love rings, too. My favorite rings are by John Hardy that I've gotten for graduation and things like that.
What style bag do you like to carry usually?
I love the smaller bags, but honestly, I have so much crap I have to carry around that I always have a big purse with me, too. I love Chanel bags. You can never go wrong with Chanel. Stella McCartney and Gucci have some nice purses, too!
How about shoes? Who makes your favorites?
Christian Louboutin! I love their heels. I like to wear wedges with pants. I also love to be comfortable, so I love me some flip flops.
What fashion item do you like to shop for most?
I love shopping for jackets. I love leather jackets and those quilted cable-knit sweaters with fur around them for the winter.
What's been your most memorable splurge?
I bought a fabulous Blumarine dress to wear at a charity event that I went to in Dallas. It's the most expensive dress I've ever gotten. It was $1,200. It's gold and has beading all over it with lace at the top and at the bottom. I donated it to the charity.
What's always in your suitcase when you travel?
I always take my flat iron and makeup. When I'm traveling, I like to pick a color and stick to that theme. That's one of my tips.
How does your personal style compare to how you like the interior of your home to look?
I like to mix in modern and antique, traditional pieces. I got that from my mom. I love to have large pieces that I can put a lot in.
What's your favoite flower?
I really like peonies. I think that peonies are pretty and delicate and different. You don't see them all the time.
What do the people closest to you know you for?
They know me for making them laugh. If they're ever feeling down, they can call me up. I'm like the person all my friends call if they're having a problem with their boyfriend or having a bad day. I like to cheer people up.
