Lesley: "The Tears and Drama Were Worth It"
When I first heard about the competition, I was ambivalent about the whole thing. Part of me thought it could be hilarious and great for the company, but the other part thought it might be a fun but pointless exercise. I had a lot going on at that time, plus I didn't really need any extra vacation days. I am maxed out as it is! (Maybe the problem is that I just need to take more vacations!)
I knew that being on Johnny's team would be an adventure no matter what happened. He definitely likes to put on a show in his daily life, so I knew he would want to take this contest to another level too.
And take it to another level he did!
Johnny became consumed by the competition. He was so excited about the song and dance that he forgot about coordinating everyone else's schedules or planning the rest of our presentation. It just wasn't realistic to think that we could all drop our work to practice on a whim, especially since earlier that day I had already told him that the time he chose for would not work for me.
When I called him out on that fact, he had a meltdown. Like, a literal meltdown. Maybe he was overly tired that day, but who knows. No one on the team really knew what to do with his tears that lasted for days.
In the end, we worked through it. Honestly, I was never mad! His reaction to the whole situation was definitely over the top, but that's Johnny. We all pulled together, made an awesome presentation and won the competition, so the tears (ahem, Johnny!) and the "drama" were all worth it.
Well, let's be honest—only one person really had drama!
