Kim's Stressful Party Planning: "I Was Running Around Like a Crazy Person!"
JustFab's VP of PR and Communications Kim Tobman shares her insights on Kimora: House of Fab's premiere episode.
This episode is definitely a deep dive into the JustFab business—all of the hard work, laughter, stress and even crying (apparently!) that makes this one fun and crazy place to work. On top of all of that, we also moved into our new office space, which was pretty exciting.
I guess most people don't have a full bar in their office? Welcome to JustFab!
While a lot of the JustFab team members were worrying about their new desks and offices, my team didn't have a whole lot of time to give our new digs a second thought—we had a launch party to plan!
The first step for that event was meeting with Jessica Paster, who I really adore. There is a reason she has been one of the top Hollywood stylists for over ten years and her clients like Emily Blunt, Elle McPherson and Hilary Duff love her: She is a creative genius. When she knows what she wants, she is determined to get it—but that unfortunately doesn't always match my budget.
I really loved her idea for a pool party to kick off her new collection, but with every idea that she had, the dollar signs and time constraints went flashing through my head. Jessica and I always play a game of push and pull when we work on events together, which often gives me heart palpitations since it is my job to keep everything on brand and in budget. Apparently I am the "Jessica Whisperer," which I am just finding out myself! I do think we just get each other. While we may have different opinions, we always find a way to see each other's side and move on.
As if the planning wasn't stressful enough, the actual event wasn't much of a picnic either! It was a very hot day in Los Angeles, my boss Don, the co-CEO, was coming with his wife and our shoes were flying off the shelves a little too quickly. Plus, I was running around like a crazy person making sure the press, Don and Jessica were happy and that Ashley, Sarah and the interns were surviving.
Watching this episode was a bit of an eye opener. While I thought I dealt with all of the stress well during the event, apparently Ashley and Sarah had their own secret panic going on. I seriously can't believe they didn't tell me about the missing boxes of shoes! But they've been working with me for a while, and they knew that telling me that kind of information while they were working it out probably wouldn't help my stress level. Those two always manage to pull it off. I really don't know what I would do without them!
Overall, the party was a smashing success! Jessica has a great time, her clients showed up and loved the shoes and we got a ton of media coverage. And whenever Don tells me I have done a good job, I sleep pretty well that night.
It was just another crazy day in the life of a JustFab employee!
