Katie Holmes Hits the 2012 Style Awards

Katie Holmes made her first Fashion Week appearance at the 2012 Style Awards Wednesday night, looking as uptown as the Lincoln Center venue in a champagne-colored skirt and black button-down.

The actress, who's hosting her own Holmes & Yang fashion show Sunday, presented Carolina Herrera with the Designer of the Year honor at the 9th annual Style Awards.

"Honored," tweeted the designer before proclaiming Katie a "beautiful" and "amazing woman."

The gathering honors designers, stylists, models, actors, photographers, makeup artists and hair stylists for their artistic accomplishments. This year marked the first that the event was part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Along with the designers in attendance, such as Prabal Gurung, Catherine Malandrino, Reed Krakoff and Rebecca Minkoff, the star-studded crowd included Nicole Richie, Ed Westwick, Amy Adams and Katharine McPhee.

And despite a broken foot, Iman was even on hand to give Model of the Year props to Joan Smalls! The legendary supermodel (and editor of the online magazine DestinationIman.com) praised her honoree for a wide-ranging career, saying, "To me, Joan Smalls is the embodiment of true beauty. I call her the new America."
