Giuliana Dishes on RPM Italian, Fab-Fest & Baby Rancic!
We caught up with the one and only Giuliana Rancic for the scoop on the Season 5 finale of Giuliana & Bill...
You confided in your sister-in-law that you felt you weren't maternal enough. Do you still feel that way?
It's been awhile since then, and I can honestly say that the maternal instincts are now kicking in! Sometimes when I'm talking to my friends, they'll stop me and say I'm turning into a mom, or that I'm "nesting." Even though I'm not physically carrying our child, I feel like I'm going through the process of motherhood each week that passes.
What kinds of tips have you gotten from friends and family for when Baby Rancic is finally in your arms?
I've gotten so many! My best friend and manager, Pam, has a 17-month-old and she's been so helpful! She's been through it recently, and has the best advice on everything from the best stroller to how to stop a baby from crying.
How many kids do you and Bill eventually want and what values do you hope to instill in your children?
We would love to have another child if we are lucky enough, but Bill and I are just so grateful that we are able to have one at all. This baby is such a gift and if only one child is in the cards for us, that is more than enough. We hope to instill honesty, integrity and a strong work ethic in our child and, of course, all the other important virtues, such as kindness, selflessness and generosity.
How did it feel to finally tell your girls that you're expecting? myStyle readers have gotten to know Sarah more over the course of the season; tell us about your relationship with her and what you love about her?
I struggled with keeping the secret that we were having a baby from my friends. I knew how excited Sarah would be and the secret was killing me, especially since she and I are together 10 hours a day. Sarah is such a big part of my life and so ingrained in my day-to-day world that there were a lot of very close calls where I nearly spilled the beans! Once Bill and I felt we were in the safe zone and could tell our friends, I instantly thought of Sarah. When I told her, she was so incredibly excited and couldn't hold back tears of joy. Sarah has the biggest heart and not only is she beautiful on the outside, she is so beautiful on the inside. She cares so much about her friends and will do anything for them. Telling her the big news was a very sweet moment for me and one I definitely won't soon forget.
The baby arrives before Emmys and Fashion Week. Will you be working those events, or taking time off?
I'm going to have to see how much work I can manage during that busy time. I will be taking a maternity leave, of course, but I definitely plan to host the Emmys red carpet.
You and Bill wanted to keep Baby Rancic's gender a secret, but it's been announced that you will reveal the sex at your baby shower on June 17. Why did you two decide to move forward and share that news?
We just thought it would be a cute and exciting way to share the news with those closest to us. We were never really against giving away the sex of the baby. It was more of a way to see how long we could actually go before spilling the details! It was kind of a fun, little challenge for us!
What's your favorite part about owning your own restaurant?
I have loved every minute of building RPM into what it is today. We are so proud of how it turned out and could not do it without our amazing partners, the Melmans. They have years and years of restaurant experience and since Bill and I had no idea what the process entailed, their knowledge and experience was invaluable.
How did it feel to have your mom be part of RPM? What are your favorite dishes on the menu and why?
Mama DePandi being a part of the entire process was so much fun. She is such an incredible woman and she clearly knows her way around the kitchen, so her input was welcomed and encouraged. There are little pieces of Mama DePandi all over the menu at RPM. Everything on the menu is so incredibly delicious, but if I had to pick some favorites, I'd have to say Giuliana's Italian Salad (I'm biased!), Mama DePandi's Bucatini Pomodoro pasta and the Eggplant Parmesan. Our chef, Doug Psaltis, is incredible and everything he makes is delicious!
What were some of your highlights from Fab-Fest?
Fab-Fest was such an incredible day. I couldn't dream of a better way to raise money and spread awareness about such an important cause. Breast cancer affects so many women around the world and if I can help just a tiny fraction of those women, I am happy. Lindsay Avner and the entire team at Bright Pink did such an incredible job with the planning and execution of the day and I could not be any more honored to participate in such an important event. I am so lucky to have Lindsay in my life and to be able to call her a friend.
