Empire Girls' Julissa Bermudez Talks Friends & Fashion for the Season Premiere
Julissa Bermudez and Adrienne Bailon have been BFFs for more than 10 years, and now they've arrived in style at Style! Julissa has a lot to say about the smashing premiere of Empire Girls, from walking the runway in Fashion Week to her blind date...
When I initially got the call to walk in Betsey Johnson's NYFW presentation, I was thrilled! As a New Yorker, Fashion Week is a huge deal, especially a show like Betsey Johnson. But since I want to be taken seriously as a host, I didn't want to confuse people by appearing on the runway. I was thinking, Maybe they want me to appear as a special host? I turned out to be a "celebrity" model. But I definitely practiced my walk leading up to it! Any chance I got, I was strutting my stuff! Even walking down the street with groceries—I took every opportunity to practice my model walk.
It was still so intimidating having to be in a line with all those professional models. I've never felt so short and out of shape in my life, since I'm usually the tallest among my friends! Especially next to my best friend, Adrienne—I mean let's be real she's four-eleven! Ultimately, being part of NYFW was a dream come true, a career highlight and an experience I won't forget.
One thing that got me through my modeling foray was that I take my beauty regimen pretty seriously. I'm only getting older, so I want to do anything I can to maintain healthy, beautiful skin. I always cleanse, tone and moisturize before bed, and most importantly, I never go to bed with makeup on! I love adding an anti-cellulite cream so it can work while I catch some zzz's.
With everything I go through, my parents are my ultimate support system! Even though they don't have any idea how hard I actually have to work, they're always there for me. My mom not only wants me to achieve my dreams but apparently hers as well (LOL). She keeps hoping I'll give up hosting and just become this big movie star one day. (Easier said than done, Mom!)
Also, it sometimes can be frustrating when asked to work on my "accent," especially when I feel like my accent helps make me who I am and makes me stand out in a crowd. But at the same time, I want to be able to cater to every demographic, even if that means having to work on my accent. But I certainly won't lose it completely!
As for my blind date, my brother seemed to love Antrel Rolle! He's such a big sports fan, especially a New York Giants fan. I was just glad to be on my date and not home with my brother being a total fan. So embarrassing!
Empire Girls airs every Sunday at 9/8c—only on Style!
