Beauty Chat With Harvin
By now, you should have a firm grasp on Harvin's personal style. Now, find out what her philosophy is on all things beauty.
How do you like to style your platinum blond locks?
I'm not very good at styling my own hair, but my mind is great at dreaming up what style I want my hairstylist Samantha Gunn aka SAM to do. The most important thing is volume and teasing in all the right places. SAM has the meanest teasing game I've ever seen hands down! Every time I try to recreate it, I blow it! Hair extensions are a necessity! SAM uses Hairdreams 22 inches for my extensions and it's hair heaven. Styling wise, I live for edgy hair styles like faux hawks or throwing textures into my hair, like braids or crimping. I also love boho waves, beachy hair. I hate helmet head pageant hair with tight, perfect curls. I like everything SAM does to my hair. We have an unspoken hair language. She's the only person I trust with my hair.
What about makeup? What's your approach to your look?
That's easy. I don't. I only like SAMJAM doing my makeup—JAM aka Jamie Kimbrough is the makeup side of that equation. I can't put lashes on myself to save my life. However, I love a smokey eye with colors like blues and dark greens for the crease color and a highlight color under the brow. Black eyeliner is a must. I also love a sunkissed cheek. Contouring is everything, too! Long story short, SAMJAM owns me from the neck up.
What are your favorite beauty products ever?
My favorite makeup product is actually a utensil to apply product and it's called a Beauty Blender. It's a pink sponge in the shape of an oversized tear drop and it is everything! JAM uses MAC products. MAC and Eye Kandy eye shadows and are superhot! I love gold tones, matte white, black, dark blues and dark greens. JAM uses Smoke and Mirrors lashes on Meyer and I as well. One of my most beloved products is Sally Hansen Air Brush Legs in Deep. You will hear us say, "I need the deep!" "Did you use deep already?" and so on because we use this stuff constantly and we don't just stop at our legs. We put it on our arms, chest, legs, stomach and, sometimes, face. It's a game changer.
Are you good about following a skincare regimen?
I go to bed with my makeup on and, well, I wake up with it on, too. It just doesn't look as good as it did the night before. After showering, I always put face lotion and under-eye rescue on. I'm terrible at following before-bed beauty rules. I sleep with my lashes on. Sometimes, I find them smashed and glued to my forehead when I wake up. They're found all around where I sleep.
What is your signature scent?
Smoke. Haha! I'm kinda kidding. I like manly scents. I prefer to buy a men's cologne or perfume that has a masculine scent. Perfumes give me headaches. Most perfume scents smell sharp to me, almost bitchy. Therefore, the smell irritates me.
Who are your beauty icons?
Saying Daphne Guinness is my inspiration is an understatement. Her blond hair, fierce cheekbones, love for tulle veils as a replacement for sunglasses, personal creations and embellishments, obsession with platform heels, and dramatic style fascinate me. She is unafraid and a champion of fashion. She is a force. I also love Kate Moss. She is a beautiful mess. To me, she is a transformer. She is a canvas to-die-for. She can own any character and feeling and mood imaginable and make you believe it. Make you want and believe it. The way she owns it, the way she tells the story with no words is just mind-blowing.
