We are firm believers that fashion resolutions are the best resolutions. Forget your promises to hit the treadmill or forgo the chocolate. Getting down with your girly side is so much more fun. A makeover for your hair, cosmetics and wardrobe? Why, don't mind if we do! Here are our top tips on how to shake up your old style and make room for a brand new you.
Take a rule, and break it! Blame it on our rebellious side, but we have a strong stance on fashion rules—they're meant to be broken! From mixing silver and gold jewelry to wearing white after Labor Day, don't be afraid to take a chance this year.
Get hue happy. We already named colorblocking the biggest trend of the year, and it has no signs of slowing down for 2012. Here's how to capture the colorful look while it's still cold. And just to make sure you don't go overboard, we have some tips to keep you from looking like a walking rainbow.
Make a mane change. If you've had basically the same hair style since high school, it may be high time for a tresses transformation. We already covered which short styles work for which face shape. If you're scared of hitting the chopping the block, remember the worst that can happen is you'll get to discover your new love for hats! To make sure that doesn't happen, here are our secrets to communicating exactly what you want to your hairdresser.
Revamp your closet. Nothing says "fresh start" like a newly streamlined closet. Here's how to choose what to keep, what to donate and which clothes get the boot. That baby blue corset top circa 1999? It's not a good look anymore. Once you've cleared your closet, make the most of your discards by hosting a clothes swapping party with your gals.
Shake up your beauty routine. If you've found yourself in a makeup rut, try experimenting with a little color in the New Year. We're not talking any drastic fads that will raise an eyebrow or two, but little changes like trying aqua eyeliner. It's a fun pick-me-up that won't break the bank. If your face seems like a daunting place to experiment, show your funky side with a little nail art. Follow in the footsteps of leading ladies, and cop an accent nail manicure in time for New Year's Eve.
